A five foot five giant, Yakuba Ra is my artist name. It honors my tribe. The Yakuba people migrated from ancient Mali to what is now Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire. I was born in the Ivory Coast and through war, found my life in America.

The Atlantic currents carry blood far.

But a young man has to build understanding, so to touch sounds I am a poet, and to see the world I am a photographer. My belief in life is that we have to add onto what the children enjoy so that they can look in the mirror with dignity.  That is why my photography seeks to reflect the lives of everyday people.
